WorldPay Wins Two Awards at the Card and Payment Awards 2014

WorldPay has been recognised by the industry for improving payment services for international consumers; and driving innovation in mobile payments.

Both awards, received at last week’s Card and Payments Awards, recognised how WorldPay is helping more and more UK businesses never miss a sale, and deliver better services to their customers.

Winner of the ‘Best Merchant Acquiring Initiative’, WorldPay’s ‘Global Shopper’ campaign has seen over 480 UK retailers offer more payment options for global consumers. Payment options for global shoppers include tax-free shopping; multi-currency processing; dedicated China UnionPay terminals; and myCurrency for Dynamic Currency Conversion – which lets international shoppers pay in their local currency, with a best exchange rate guarantee.

According to UK retail and hospitality transaction data from WorldPay, payments processed from Chinese shoppers increased by over 10% from 2012 to 2013. Last year WorldPay processed transactions worth over £18.9m for Chinese shoppers in the UK.

Commenting on the award, Dave Hobday, Managing Director of WorldPay UK said: “Record numbers of overseas visitors are hitting the UK High Street so it’s vital retailers get a piece of the action and do everything they can to attract shoppers from China, Russia and the Middle East.

“Last year WorldPay helped over 80 large retailers install myCurrency. While some retailers offer tax free shopping to entice more people in-store, most still aren’t taking advantage of other value adds, like using myCurrency to attract higher footfall and spend or letting  shoppers pay using the card they want to, such as China UnionPay”.

WorldPay was also recognised for ‘Best Initiative in Mobile Payments’ at the Card and Payment awards. Its WorldPay Zinc service is a new option for small businesses and sole traders, who can take card payments via a compact Chip and PIN keypad linked to a compatible smartphone or tablet. With no contract lock-ins or monthly fees, WorldPay Zinc is flexible enough to grow with a small business, as they can pay as they go.

Dave added: “60-70 per cent of the UK’s 4 million small businesses are still missing out on card payments. With WorldPay Zinc small businesses and sole traders will never miss a sale if their customers don't have enough cash, a real game-changer for small businesses in the UK.”
